Mechanical Engineering (ME)

Early applications ran 8 December 2025 08:00–5 February 2026 17:00; regular applications ran 6 February 08:00–10 March 2026 17:00, Beijing time. Regular online entrance tests were on 21–22 March. Pre-admitted applicants had to supply CSCA results by 30 June 2026.

Applicants need high-school graduation or equivalent, non-Chinese citizenship, a valid foreign passport, compliance with MOE Document 12 (2020)/nationality review, good health and no criminal record. Final-year students must graduate before enrollment. School of Medicine undergraduate admissions are independent and follow its own guide.

Chinese-route evidence is HSK 5 ≥200 with writing ≥60, or HSK 6 ≥180 with writing ≥60, or equivalent evidence such as native Chinese. A one-year Chinese-course application is available only to conditionally admitted applicants below the language threshold. English TOEFL/IELTS/native- or instructional-language evidence is also required. Language, standardized and CSCA results must be obtained within two years.

The 2026 Chinese bachelor’s guide lists RMB 24,800/academic year, with a RMB 120,000/year Global Institute of Future Technology exception. Application fee: RMB 800, non-refundable; insurance: RMB 800/year; housing is additional. School of Medicine uses its own schedule.

English Civil Engineering costs RMB 80,000/academic year and covers digital twins, construction robotics, intelligent sensing and green buildings. GIFT Sustainable Energy and Health Science and Technology are four-year BEng routes at RMB 120,000/year, integrating AI with energy or active health. Both routes charge RMB 800 non-refundable application and RMB 800/year insurance.

Estimated tuition is CNY 150,000/year, subject to authority filing and change; application costs USD 75, non-refundable, and insurance CNY 800/academic year. Global College estimates housing and living at CNY 3,000/month each, and books/supplies at CNY 2,100/year. These average budgets are not fixed fees for every destination school.

Submit a passport valid over six months, high-school qualification/profile, signed statement, two signed references (one current high-school teacher), full transcripts, standardized results/explanation, CSCA and Chinese/English evidence. Birth certificate, both parents’ nationality and RMB 100,000/equivalent financial guarantee are required; under-18 applicants need a guardian form. Visual Communication/Human Habitat Design require portfolios; other-language documents need notarized translations.

Relevant applicants with Chinese parents need foreign-nationality evidence. Foreign nationality at birth requires parents’ pre-birth permanent residence, or four-year Chinese-renunciation evidence by 30 April 2026 for the Chinese 2026 route / 30 April 2027 for the 2027 Cluster. Former Chinese citizens also need hukou cancellation, renunciation and all Chinese visas, permits and entry/exit history from the first passport. Prior PRC travel-document/permit holders need relevant renunciation evidence.

The 2026 Chinese bachelor’s first-class award waives tuition and provides RMB 2,500/month living support, RMB 1,100/month housing and RMB 800/year insurance; second class waives tuition with housing/insurance; third class provides housing/insurance. These tiers are specific to that Chinese route; English-route tuition percentages differ.

Current service-page RMB rates per person/semester: Minhang Nanyang Beiyuan singles 10,080 with shared bathroom or 12,600 ensuite; Building 9 doubles 6,600, restricted to first-year undergraduates/university-level exchange. Xuhui Taoliyuan doubles 6,600, singles 10,600–11,900. Capacity is limited; reserve and prepay a full semester. Utilities/bedding are extra; housing after year 1 is not guaranteed.

Chinese bachelor’s and graduate applications use https://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/. The 2027 English Engineering Cluster starts on Common App (https://apply.commonapp.org/Login?ma=699), then completes SJTU portal procedures after preliminary review. Qualifications remain subject to verification; the admission notice sets registration.

Regular entrance tests vary by route: science/engineering/agriculture/medicine take Mathematics, Physics and English; humanities/social sciences take Mathematics, Chinese I and English; Chinese Language takes Chinese II and English. Interviews also apply. Pre-admitted applicants prepay tuition within two weeks; formal documents were issued in July 2026 for early-September entry.

Complete Common Application first. After preliminary approval and SJTU notification, finish the requested SJTU Portal steps. Prepay tuition through the SJTU portal within two weeks of admission results to confirm enrollment. Notices are issued during July 2027; study begins in early September, on the date in the admission letter.
