2026 Degree Deadlines
Master
Master programmes normally last 2 to 3 academic years, mainly Chinese-taught, with some English-taught options. For 2026, the self-funded master deadline was 2026-02-28, with selected majors open until 2026-05-31. Scholarship routes had separate dates: CSC Type B was 2025-12-31; Youth of Excellence Scheme and Zhejiang Government Scholarship were 2026-02-28; China-ASEAN Oceanic Scholarship, ZIBS Hai Scholarship and ZJU-ISM Master's Freshman Scholarship were 2026-05-31. Admission notices were expected from late July 2026.
Degree Eligibility
Graduate language thresholds
General Chinese graduate routes require valid HSK 5 ≥180 or above; a recognized Chinese-medium university degree or Chinese-medium junior and senior secondary study may support an HSK waiver with institutional evidence. Non-native English applicants need valid IELTS ≥6.5, TOEFL ≥90, DET ≥120, CAE ≥180 or CPE ≥180, or recognized English-medium degree/other proficiency evidence. Native English may be exempt; programme additions still apply.
Degree Application Documents
Master and doctoral documents
Master applicants submit passport information page, highest degree certificate or pre-graduation/student-status certificate, undergraduate transcripts, language certificate, a personal statement of at least 1,500 words, two recommendation letters from full professors or associate professors, supervisor provisional-acceptance form if applicable, published papers or other academic achievements if applicable, nationality-related documents, and application commitments. Doctoral documents are similar, but transcripts cover both master and bachelor study, and the highest degree certificate is the master's degree. Current students must provide the official degree certificate at registration.
2026 graduate passport validity
Master’s and doctoral passports must expire after 1 March 2027. Passport details cannot change before enrollment registration.
Programmes, Duration and Fees
Programme catalogues
ZJU's 2026 bachelor, master and doctoral guides all treat programme catalogues as updateable attachments and warn that listings may change. The bachelor catalogue is separated into Chinese-taught and English-taught programmes. The master and doctoral catalogues are also separated by Chinese-taught and English-taught programmes and include school, programme name, research direction or notes, duration, teaching language, tuition, application deadline and additional requirements. These catalogues support programme browsing, but exact programme requirements still need programme-by-programme checking against the catalogue and school rules.
Baseline tuition
The official fee page lists baseline tuition: bachelor programmes RMB 19,800/year for philosophy, literature and history; RMB 24,800/year for economics, business, law, education, science, engineering and agriculture; RMB 29,800/year for medical science and art; and RMB 42,800/year for MBBS. Master tuition is RMB 22,800/year for philosophy, literature and history; RMB 28,800/year for economics, business, law, education, science, engineering and agriculture; and RMB 32,800/year for medical science and art. Doctoral tuition is RMB 29,800/year, RMB 34,800/year and RMB 39,800/year for the same three groups. English-taught doctoral, master, general advanced, senior advanced and research-scholar programmes add RMB 8,000/academic year; special programmes follow the application guide and admission notice.
Application fee, insurance and payment
The bachelor, master and doctoral application fee is RMB 800, paid online and non-refundable; Chinese Language and Culture programmes list an RMB 400 application fee. Degree guides state that application fee and tuition should preferably be paid through the online application system; if online payment fails, applicants remit to the university bank account and upload the remittance voucher in the system. Degree students must purchase comprehensive medical insurance in mainland China at RMB 800/academic year; students who fail to purchase it as required cannot register for the new semester.
Scholarship Routes
Master and doctoral
The master guide lists CSC Bilateral Program, CSC Chinese University Program, Youth of Excellence Scheme, Zhejiang Government Scholarship, China-ASEAN Oceanic Scholarship, ZJU International Campus ZIBS Hai Scholarship, and ZJU-ISM Master's Freshman Scholarship. The doctoral guide lists CSC Bilateral Program, CSC Chinese University Program, China Studies Program PhD Fellowship, Zhejiang Government Scholarship, ZJE Hai Scholarship, ZJU International School of Medicine Scholarship, China-ASEAN Oceanic Scholarship, and College of Optical Science and Engineering Scholarship. Some scholarships apply only to specific colleges or programmes and should not be treated as university-wide funding.
Accommodation
The degree guides refer accommodation arrangements to the International College Current Student-Accommodation page and later notices. The New Student FAQ says autumn-intake students should follow the International College website, with booking notices usually released in early August; Hangzhou-campus students who successfully book online can go directly to the assigned dormitory building at registration. Hangzhou accommodation information covers Yuquan, Zijingang and Huajiachi; Haining, Zhoushan, Yiwu and Ningbo campuses use their own channels or contacts. The university does not provide family accommodation.
Admission, Prepayment and Registration
Selection
ZJU first reviews application materials. Applicants who pass preliminary review attend video interviews arranged by academic schools. Bachelor admission is competitive based on senior high-school academic performance, language proficiency, interview performance and related factors. Master and doctoral admission is competitive based on research ability, academic performance, language proficiency and video-interview performance. Admission and interview information is released through the International College site, school sites, the application system and email.
Pre-admission and tuition prepayment
Bachelor applicants who receive a Pre-Admission Notice must prepay the first-year tuition in the application system within the stated period; otherwise pre-admission is cancelled. ZJU reserves study places only for students who have prepaid the first academic year's tuition. If a student gives up enrolment for personal reasons, or is disqualified because registration requirements are not met, the prepaid first-year tuition is not refunded. The master and doctoral guides also state that tuition paid by self-funded international students is non-refundable in principle.
Registration verification
The degree guides state that online pre-registration was expected in late August 2026 and on-site registration in early September 2026, with exact dates to be announced later on the International College site. New students must register at the university within the specified period. Original graduation certificates, degree certificates and language-proficiency certificates are checked at on-site registration; students unable to provide the corresponding originals are disqualified from enrolment. Students may not hold more than one student status at Chinese universities at the same time.
