Application dates

2027 self-funded bachelor's applications

The application window is 1 March–15 May 2027; CSCA results must also be submitted by 15 May. This round has not started as of 10 October 2026. The admission notice gives the autumn registration date.

Entry requirements

Bachelor's eligibility and nationality

Applicants must be healthy non-Chinese citizens aged 18–30 with a high-school qualification or above. Applicants born abroad with foreign nationality to one or two Chinese-citizen parents settled abroad must document that their Chinese-citizen parent or parents obtained permanent residence abroad before their birth, and must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality documentation for at least four years. Former mainland Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan residents who acquired foreign nationality must have done so before 30 April 2023. Both groups need at least two years of actual residence abroad between 30 April 2023 and 30 April 2027; nine months abroad in a year counts as one year, based on entry and exit stamps.

Bachelor's Chinese-language requirements

Chinese-taught bachelor's programmes generally require HSK 5 with at least 180 overall and at least 60 in each component. Chinese Language requires HSK 4 with the same score thresholds; advanced entry into years two or three has additional prior-study and HSK 5/6 conditions. The Malaysian independent Chinese high-school UEC certificate can replace HSK. The English major is still taught in Chinese and additionally requires IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 70 or above.

Bachelor's CSCA and selection

All international bachelor's applicants must submit CSCA results. The 2027 catalogue specifies Chinese-language tests by major: Humanities Chinese or STEM Chinese, mathematics, and physics/chemistry for certain majors. Chinese Language applicants with HSK 4 of at least 180 can be exempted from Humanities Chinese. Mathematics, computer science, international students, foreign studies and business schools list additional written tests/interviews, with arrangements communicated by the department.

Programmes, fees and accommodation

2027 bachelor's and master's catalogues

The 2027 bachelor's catalogue is entirely Chinese-taught, with a four-year duration. The master's catalogue gives a two-, 2.5- or three-year duration and teaching language for each entry. English-taught options include China and Global Affairs, Contemporary China Studies, information management and digital humanities, information management and data analytics, computer technology, artificial intelligence, architecture, urban-rural planning and smart environment.

Bachelor's costs

The 2027 self-funded bachelor's guide lists RMB 21,000/year for humanities and RMB 24,000/year for science and business. The non-refundable application fee is RMB 500, payable after initial review; insurance is RMB 400/semester. Accommodation is separate.

Dormitory fee units

The accommodation page lists Xianlin at RMB 3,000/semester/bed, Gulou twin rooms at RMB 52/day/bed and single rooms at RMB 67/day. The refundable item and key deposits are RMB 550 and RMB 50, paid in cash and returned subject to checkout conditions. Electricity is purchased separately.

Accommodation arrangements

Self-funded students must reserve in advance; reservations normally open in early August and mid-January. Dormitory availability is not guaranteed for newly arriving self-funded students, and early arrivals need temporary accommodation. Housing should match the teaching campus. Xianlin does not provide mattresses or bedding; Gulou provides mattresses but other bedding must be brought by the student.

Scholarships

2027 CSC Type B funding and decision

The High-Level Postgraduate full scholarship covers tuition, university international-student accommodation and RMB 800/year in medical insurance. Monthly stipends are RMB 3,000 for master's students and RMB 3,500 for doctoral students. Annual review is required. NJU nomination or pre-admission does not guarantee funding; CSC makes the final decision.

2026 Nanjing Municipal Scholarship

The 2026 application window, 24–28 August, has closed. It covered full-time international bachelor's, master's and doctoral students at NJU, with RMB 10,000 for undergraduates and RMB 20,000 for postgraduates for one academic year, subject to selection and restrictions on concurrent government/university scholarships.

Application documents

2027 bachelor's core documents

Prepare the passport information page, evidence of three-year full-time high-school completion, complete three-year transcripts, HSK or eligible UEC evidence, CSCA results, one or two high-school teacher recommendations and a bachelor's study plan. Expected graduates may initially submit a pre-graduation certificate and provide the final certificate at registration. Documents in other languages need an official notarized Chinese or English translation. The passport must remain valid until at least 1 March 2028; applicants already in mainland China also provide visa/residence-permit pages.

Bachelor's additional documents and choices

Applicants with Malaysian SPM or a two-year high-school qualification must also provide a one-year university foundation certificate; an enrolment certificate can be submitted initially, followed by the final certificate at registration. The results requirement also calls for a one-year foundation transcript or applicable STPM/A-Level results. Architecture applicants submit at least one relevant art work; the English major requires additional English scores. Applicants of Chinese origin or changed nationality follow the identity-document checklist. Two programme preferences and an adjustment choice are allowed; declining adjustment after neither preference admits the applicant results in no admission.

Application process and registration

Choose the system for the route

The 2027 self-funded bachelor’s route uses NJU’s international-student system at https://istudy.nju.edu.cn/. The 2027 self-funded master’s and CSC Type B routes use https://nju.17gz.org/. Each route follows its own application dates.

Bachelor's review and notifications

Initial bachelor's review normally takes five working days. Pay the application fee when requested after initial approval; departmental review, including applicable tests/interviews, normally takes about 10–30 working days. Check system messages and email regularly. Electronic admission documents are normally sent within 15 working days after admission is completed.

Arrival and qualification checks

Use the admission notice and applicable JW202/JW201 documentation for the study-visa process, and bring original qualifications and a valid medical record for registration. Failed qualification checks can cancel admission or scholarship eligibility; late registration requires leave approval. Once enrolled at NJU, concurrent degree enrolment at another higher-education institution is generally prohibited except approved joint double-degree arrangements.
