Application dates
2027 self-funded master's applications
Applications run from 1 March to 20 May 2027 and have not started yet. This is the self-funded route; Chinese Government Scholarship deadlines are separate. Entry is in autumn, with the exact registration date in the admission notice.
2027 CSC Type B postgraduate route
The university application window is 1 November 2026–20 January 2027 and has not started yet. Applicants who obtain NJU pre-admission must also submit their CSC application before 17 March 2027; the university application alone is insufficient.
Entry requirements
Self-funded master's eligibility
Applicants must be healthy non-Chinese citizens, generally no older than 40, holding a degree equivalent to a Chinese bachelor's degree. Expected 2027 graduates may provide a pre-graduation certificate and must be able to graduate and receive their degree by July 2027.
Master's language: admission and graduation
Chinese-taught master’s admission requires HSK 4 with at least 180 for natural sciences, engineering and medicine, or HSK 5 with at least 180 for liberal arts, social sciences and business. Graduation requires HSK 5 and HSK 6 respectively, also with at least 180. English-taught admission accepts IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 85 on the 0–120 scale or 4.5 on the 1–6 scale, TOEFL Essentials 9 or Duolingo 100 or above; graduation requires HSK 3 with at least 180. Applicants with 12 years of Chinese-medium schooling in Malaysia, Singapore or other countries may use their high-school qualification instead of HSK under the guide.
Programmes, fees and accommodation
2027 bachelor's and master's catalogues
The 2027 bachelor's catalogue is entirely Chinese-taught, with a four-year duration. The master's catalogue gives a two-, 2.5- or three-year duration and teaching language for each entry. English-taught options include China and Global Affairs, Contemporary China Studies, information management and digital humanities, information management and data analytics, computer technology, artificial intelligence, architecture, urban-rural planning and smart environment.
Master's baseline and programme-specific fees
The 2027 master's guide refers to the university fee schedule: baseline Chinese-taught master's tuition is RMB 25,000/academic year for humanities, RMB 28,000 for science/engineering/business and RMB 48,000 for medicine. English-taught and featured Chinese-taught programmes use their own schedules. The 2027 catalogue explicitly lists Journalism and Communication with Chinese and international students together at RMB 25,000/year for three years, and its international-student class at RMB 30,000/year for two years.
Master's application fee and insurance
The 2027 self-funded master's application fee is RMB 600 and is non-refundable; insurance is RMB 400/semester. The fee schedule separately lists MBA tuition at RMB 185,000 for the entire 2.5-year programme.
Dormitory fee units
The accommodation page lists Xianlin at RMB 3,000/semester/bed, Gulou twin rooms at RMB 52/day/bed and single rooms at RMB 67/day. The refundable item and key deposits are RMB 550 and RMB 50, paid in cash and returned subject to checkout conditions. Electricity is purchased separately.
Accommodation arrangements
Self-funded students must reserve in advance; reservations normally open in early August and mid-January. Dormitory availability is not guaranteed for newly arriving self-funded students, and early arrivals need temporary accommodation. Housing should match the teaching campus. Xianlin does not provide mattresses or bedding; Gulou provides mattresses but other bedding must be brought by the student.
Scholarships
2027 CSC Type B funding and decision
The High-Level Postgraduate full scholarship covers tuition, university international-student accommodation and RMB 800/year in medical insurance. Monthly stipends are RMB 3,000 for master's students and RMB 3,500 for doctoral students. Annual review is required. NJU nomination or pre-admission does not guarantee funding; CSC makes the final decision.
2026 Nanjing Municipal Scholarship
The 2026 application window, 24–28 August, has closed. It covered full-time international bachelor's, master's and doctoral students at NJU, with RMB 10,000 for undergraduates and RMB 20,000 for postgraduates for one academic year, subject to selection and restrictions on concurrent government/university scholarships.
Application documents
2027 self-funded master's documents
Upload a physical-examination form valid within six months, bachelor's qualification or pre-graduation evidence, complete undergraduate transcripts, two recommendations from academics of at least associate-professor rank, the applicable language result, a personal statement and passport information page. Applicants of Chinese origin provide identity evidence; Architecture and Urban Planning applicants provide a portfolio. Other-language documents need a notarized or issuer-provided Chinese/English translation. GRE is optional.
Application process and registration
Choose the system for the route
The 2027 self-funded bachelor’s route uses NJU’s international-student system at https://istudy.nju.edu.cn/. The 2027 self-funded master’s and CSC Type B routes use https://nju.17gz.org/. Each route follows its own application dates.
Master's review and notifications
Self-funded master's initial review normally takes three working days; requested supplements are due by the application deadline. Departments review batches in April–May, sometimes with remote tests/interviews. Decisions are normally issued in May–June, with the admission letter and JW202 download instructions. These are process estimates, not an admission guarantee.
Arrival and qualification checks
Use the admission notice and applicable JW202/JW201 documentation for the study-visa process, and bring original qualifications and a valid medical record for registration. Failed qualification checks can cancel admission or scholarship eligibility; late registration requires leave approval. Once enrolled at NJU, concurrent degree enrolment at another higher-education institution is generally prohibited except approved joint double-degree arrangements.
